I am pleased to announce that Felix Alvarez will serve as the next Director of Procurement and Payment Services. Felix has a wide range of leadership experience in public procurement, supply chain and contracts administration, and will be an excellent addition to the University’s finance and operations units.
He will begin his new role on Jan. 2, 2017.
Felix has been executive director of procurement at the University Health System in San Antonio since 2013 where he managed centralized procurement, contract administration, and sourcing operations, equipment and commodities as the chief procurement and contracting officer. Prior to this role, he was the senior director of procurement and supplier diversity with the North Texas Tollway Authority in Plano where he successfully led efforts to streamline business processes and implement cost-savings initiatives and best practices. Felix’s background also includes working with the San Antonio Independent School District and the City of San Antonio as a contracts administrator and contracts officer, respectively.
“I am extremely excited to bring my public procurement knowledge and leadership experience to the University of Texas at Austin,” Felix said. “I’m also looking forward to supporting the university’s educational and research missions while continuing to serve Procurement Service and Accounts Payable customers in a timely, efficient, and transparent manner.”
Felix has the right skills and experience to lead UT Austin’s procurement, purchasing and payment services enterprise. I welcome the opportunity to work with him and his team in addressing the evolving needs of our university’s staff, faculty, and students.
Thanks to all of you who participated in the selection process for this position. Please join me in congratulating Felix in this new appointment.
